11th ANNUAL BISD FITNESS WALK THURSDAY

The 11th annual Brenham ISD Fitness walk is tomorrow (Thursday) at Cubs Stadium from  4 to 6pm.

The BISD School Health Advisory Council says this encourages students to take an active role in their health and provides a a direct line of communications between the teachers, the students and parents to make healthy eating and regular exercise a part of every child’s lifestyle.

The event continues a participating competition between the three elementary schools.  A 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place is determined by a participation percentage.  Each campus will receive a monetary award which will be determined, as long as it is used for the winning school’s PE department and is not included in the annual school budget.

The campus with the greatest participation percentage also receives a Water Day on the winning campus.  The  main attraction will be a big water slide.

All the participating students  receive a medal for walking on the stadium track.

Jim Long, the PE Coordinator for the Brenham School District says the emphasis is on the students and their relatives. He says the event has grown tremendously in the past 11 years.
