Dolphins take four games in two days

ALVIN, Texas – The Alvin Dolphins defeated the Blinn Buccaneer baseball team for the fourth time in two days here Saturday, taking both games of an afternoon double-header, 6-5 and 9-0.

The losses dropped the Buccaneers to 22-19 on the season and 15-13 in the Region XIV Conference. The Buccaneers have lost five straight after 1-0 and 6-0 losses to the Dolphins on Friday.

Alvin’s lineup was aggressive against both Buccaneer starting pitchers Saturday, scoring five earned runs in three innings against Game 1 starter Caden Williams before Cole Doherty threw three innings of strong relief. Doherty allowed one run on two hits, striking out three.

The Buccaneers scattered 11 hits in the opening game, including three from Jager Toffan and two from Nolan Brown. Reed Robinson drove in a pair of runs, and Williams and Toffan each added RBIs.

Shane McCarley threw the first two innings in Game 2, allowing seven runs on five hits and four walks before the Buccaneer bullpen again settled things down. Seth Ballew allowed one run in four innings of relief and Dillon Mazzaccoli threw the final two innings, allowing one run.

Nolan Brown went 3-for-3 with a triple, double and walk, while Williams went 2-for-4. Christian Thames had the Buccaneers’ only other hit.

The Bucs will look to right the ship Friday when they travel to Laredo for a 4 p.m. double-header.
