ANOTHER DECLINE IN BUILDING PERMITS

Building permits in Brenham declined again in November with the city issuing 21 permits worth $415,617.  This was third consecutive monthly decline in building permits but the total amount of building permits did exceed $30 million for the year.  Twenty-six million of this year’s permits, however, were for the new Alton Elementary School  on South Market and the $12 million in renovations at Brenham Middle School.

School construction accounted for almost half the amount of permits in November.  The Brenham Christian Academy is building a new, multi-purpose gym worth $200,000.  The head of the school, Dr. Charles Loyd said this gym will the home of the basketball and volleyball teams, and the center of many other activities at the school.

Loyd says this gym is expected to be $10,000 square feet.

This construction is just phase one of this project.  Loyd says they will be adding other buildings to the Academy under a master plan the BCA Board adopted when he came to the school.

The city issued a $98,452 permit  for the Scott and White Hospital for fire sprinkler system upgrade.
