APOLOGIES FOR FALSE AMBER ALERT

Brazos County Emergency officials are apologizing for a false Amber Alert sent out Wednesday morning.  The alert came in the middle of the KWHI newscast, and heard throughout the Brazos Valley.

The Brazos County Emergency Communications District inadvertently activated the Brazos Valley Amber Alert while doing a routine weekly test of the Emergency Alert System.  In doing so, a fictitious Amber Alert Test scenario was broadcast.  The broadcast concerned the kidnapping of a child in Bryan but there was no actual abduction.

A routine test of the system is performed weekly in an on-going effort to ensure the system functions properly and is available in the event of a child abduction emergency.
