AUSTIN COUNTY ENACTS BURN BAN

A burn ban has been issued in Austin County.

County Judge Carolyn Bilski announced the move Monday, saying burning is prohibited outside an enclosure that contains all flames and sparks.

The ban comes after what had been a wetter-than-normal spring—but the summer months have seen little, if any, rainfall.

Bilski says burning in a barrel is allowed, but only if citizens observe certain factors, including:

  • Burning only when there is no wind.
  • Keeping a water source and hose nearby and at the ready
  • And, staying with the fire until it’s completely extinguished.

Bilski says violation of the burn ban could lead to a fine of up $500.
