BISD BOARD HAS BUDGET DISCUSSION AND SOMETIMES CONTENTIOUS MEETING

There were some routine discussions about the budget and a contentious exchange at today’s (Monday’s) meeting of the Brenham school Board.

Brenham School Supt. Sam Bell said after the special noon time meeting that the Board still needs to get a lot of information, especially about average daily attendance before they can do more concrete work on the budget.  He did say however, that the process is moving forward and expects no problems before the budget and tax rate is adopted for the upcoming school year

Some of the discussions were heated, when the matter of the hiring of the junior high school principal at their last meeting on April 21st.  Bryan Bryant of the College Station School district was hired after a four to three vote, and a lengthy executive session.

Former Board President Ray Weiss said this matter should not have come up in the first place because they were discussed in executive session.   Current Board President Ehlert, along with board members Tommie Sullivan and Susan Jenkins were the three votes against the administration’s recommendation to hire Bryant.  Weiss favored the hiring.
