BISD EXAMINING PRELIMINARY STAAR SCORES

Bonnie Brinkmeyer, the Brenham School District’s Coordinator for Curriculum and Accountability is reviewing the district’s scores in the most recently administered STAAR Tests.

The score were released statewide  from the Texas Education Agency,Thursday but the local district and school scores are still being looked at and analyzed.

A spokeswoman for the TEA says the local scores should be available in the summer.

TEA officials  described the latest scores on the State of Texas Assessment of Readiness as relatively stable, compared with recent years.

State Education Commissioner Michael Williams said however, the reading scores were troubling and said further test data shows was important in helping students improve, despite ongoing criticism of the exams.

The statewide scores showed that seventh graders scored four points lower than they did last year.

There were some improvements in the math scores in all of the grades.  These are results from the STAAR tests given in the fall semester to students in the third through eighth grades.

  1. When I was in school, we had the California Achievement Test. It wasn’t till the junior year in high school we had to worry about the SAT and ACT. Sad…

  2. Too much emphasis goes into these tests, esp in the younger grades. These kids should be excited about learning, not stressed out about one test! When I was in school we only had to worry about the ACT and SAT. I’m so tired of hearing about the STARR test!
