The cheerleaders received their National Cheerleaders Association championship rings prior to the Buccaneers’ game against Tyler Junior College, while the dance team received their National Dance Alliance championship rings at halftime.

Each championship marked the first in program history.

In April, the Buccaneer cheer team scored 93.33 points at the NCA championships in Daytona, Fla. To defeat Shorter (Ga.) University for the title. The win came one year after missing out on the title by four-tenths of a point.

The dance squad was also coming off a second-place finish in 2013 but bounced back to win the top prize in 2014, scoring 9.632 out of a possible 10 points to claim their first national championship and dethrone two-time defending national champion Ramapo College.

Sarah Barland is Blinn’s spirit coordinator and head dance coach, while Michael Barland serves as head cheer coach.
