BLINN DUO NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Blinn College sophomores Bruna Evangelista and Crystal Young were named Region XIV Conference Players of the Week after leading the top-ranked Buccaneer volleyball team to a 5-0 record last week.
Evangelista pounded 104 kills in five matches, including 22 in the Buccaneers’ five-set victory over second-ranked Western Nebraska on Friday. The middle blocker from Brazil has 327 kills this season and is averaging 3.94 per set. She leads the offense with a .429 hitting percentage.
Young dished out 245 assists in five matches, including a season-high 59 against Trinity Valley on Thursday. She has 792 assists on the season and is averaging 10.9 per set.
Blinn beat Trinity Valley in four sets Thursday, then swept all four matches Friday and Saturday at the Tyler Invitational. The Bucs are riding a 15-match winning streak and hit the road this week with matches at Coastal Bend at 6 p.m. Friday and Laredo at 1 p.m. Saturday.
