BLINN NAMES TWO DEANS

  

Blinn College named two deans Wednesday as a continuation of their on-going reorganization efforts that began under President Harold Nolte.

The College named Dr. Greg Phillips as the new Dean of Science, Engineering and Math while tabbing Dr. Jimmy Adams its dean of Business Agriculture and Kinesiology.  These hires complete the search for new deans.

In recent months, Blinn has named Dr. Cynthia Griffith its vice president for instruction, Karen Buck the assistant president for instruction and has selected six deans, including M. Elia Flores for Health Sciences, Dr. Diane Lovell-Osburn for Social Sciences, Dr. Marcelo Busski for Visual and Performing Arts and Patricia Westergaard for Humanities.

Dr. Phillips is a former player for the Blinn Buccaneer football team, and he earned an Associates Degree in Science in chemistry and biology.  He then transferred to the University of Texas in Austin when he received a B.A. in biology and  chemistry.  He earned a master’s  in biology at Sam Houston and then went on to get a PhD.

He has 30 years experience in higher education and the 25 years at Blinn.  He has taught general biology and microbiology.  He has been Blinn’s Service Learning director since 2001.

Dr. Jimmy Adams also has more than 30 years experience in higher education with 13 of those years in community colleges and universities.

Adams comes to Blinn from Lamar Institute of Technology in Beaumont, where he served as dean of Workforce Education.

Adams was the recipient of the Sam Houston State University Leadership Doctoral Research Award and was selected for the University Council for Educational Administration.
