BLUE BELL GETS APPROVAL FOR FUEL STORAGE TANK

Blue Bell Creameries can now move forward on installing a 20,000 gallon above ground diesel fuel storage tank on the creamery grounds so they can ship their product nationwide.

The Brenham City Council approved the request from Blue Bell at  (Thursday’s ) meeting.  City Fire Marshal Alan Finke said they needed council approval because of its large capacity.  He said the tank meets EPA requirements and Fire Code requirements from the city.  Finke said the most important aspect of the proposal was that the tank would be on Blue Bell property, on what is in effect a gas station, that is well away from any residential housing.

Finke also told the council that having an above ground storage tank is better than having an underground tank.

Finke said the tank is registered with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.  The permit will be for one year and renewed annually after the Fire Marshal’s inspection.

  1. J stocton, where do you get your gas from. Walmart probably stores 50-60 thousand gallons of fuel right next to a store that usually has hundreds of patrons, with a bunch of other businesses around. What about all the other gas stations around. How many gallons of gasoline and diesel do you think are in storage in and around Brenham? How do you come up with a West analogy in this?
Next thing, how is this going to allow them to ship their product nationwide. Because they have a 20,000 gallon tank in Brenham, the range of their trucks miraculously increases. There is not a truck out there has has normal, factory installed tanks on it (200-300 gallons), that can make it to Colorado and back, or the Florida panhandle and back, without refueling. I guess they are going to put wheels under that tank and tow it along with their trucks.

  2. SCARY! That area is surrounded by neighborhoods and schools. Is this really safe? I don’t think it’s too much to ask that we all remember the West, TX explosion.
