WASHINGTON COUNTY ROADS SAFE, SO FAR

So far, it’s been a safe Christmas week on the highways of Washington County.

As of Thursday morning only a handful of minor accidents have been reported on area roads.  No fatalities or accidents with major injuries have been reported in Washington or surrounding counties.

The American Automobile Association estimates over 4 million Texas drivers are making extended trips to see friends and family this week.

Drivers need to continue to exercise extreme caution.  Operation Combined Accident Reduction Effort, or C.A.R.E., continues.

Every available trooper is out patrolling the state’s highways with orders to strictly enforce all traffic laws.  There is a special emphasis on driving while intoxicated, seat belt and speeding violations.  There will be no tolerance on these offenses.

All of the local law enforcement agencies in the state, including the Washington County Sheriff’s office and the Brenham police department will be assisting the DPS in this effort.
