BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO HAVE CHARTER DISCUSSIONS

The Brenham City Council will be discussing a new city charter,  accepting an audit, helping the Washington County Appraisal District with computers, and seeing about a new air conditioner for the rooftop of city hall, when they meet Thursday.

City Manager Terry Roberts said last month that it has been almost two decades since the city of Brenham adopted a new charter.  He said there has been numerous changes to city life and needs since then and it’s time for the Brenham City Council to discuss adopting another one.  Roberts said the matter was on the workshop agenda in a February meeting and they will have another discussion at Thursday’s meeting at city hall.

Roberts said only a vote of the people can change the city charter and that vote is over a year away.  He says however, it is time to begin the discussions.

The City Council will also get an update on the Brenham Pet Adoption and Care Center that will eventually go up near the city police station.

The Council will also act on accepting the 2013 audit for the Washington County Appraisal District from Seidel, Schroeder and Company.

The Council will also act on allowing the appraisal district  to spend neatly $3300 in budget savings from last year’s budget for new desktop computers and for a 2017 flight Pictometry.  The other entities with the appraisal district will also contributes funds for these projects.

It has been just over ten years since the Brenham City Offices moved into the current city hall.  Now it appears the building needs a new rooftop air conditioning unit.  The City Council will act on purchasing a rooftop A/C from the Buy Board Local Government Purchasing Cooperative.

The Brenham City Council meets Thursday at one at city hall.
