After a lengthy executive session and a split vote, the Brenham School Board hired Bryan Bryant as the new principal at Brenham Junior High School at last (Monday) night’s meeting.

The Brenham School Board voted 4 to 3 to hire a new principal at the junior high school.

Bryant has been the assistant principal at Oakwood Intermediate School in College Station for the past two and a half years.  He is a scientist by profession. Prior to going into administration, Bryant taught chemistry, Physics and IPC for almost ten years.  He also did some coaching.  Bryant has been a head tennis coach.  He earned his Bachelor’s in Chemistry from East Texas State in Commerce. He has a Master’s from Sam Houston. He was an U.S. Army officer for six years, where he was once the ‘Soldier of the Year’ in Europe.

Brenham Supt. Sam Bell said after last (Monday) night’s meeting that Bryant with his history of coaching and the military in his background all of this added up to an ‘exciting new principal’ for the Brenham School District.

Bryant will soon be Dr. Bryant as he is currently working on his PHD from Texas A&M.
Not everyone was excited about the appointment.  Board President Melvin Ehlert, and Board Members Susan Jenkins, and Tommie Sullivan,  voted against the administration recommendation to hire Bryant.

The executive session discussing the Bryant appointment took over an hour and a half.

Bryant succeeds Paul Aschenback, who is becoming the assistant superintendent for the BISD.  Achenback became the Junior High School Principal three years ago after Artis Edwards suddenly retired.

  1. As the parent of a junior high student, I would be interested in hearing WHY the board was split so dramatically in their voting? Mr. Bryant’s qualifications appear to be great so why the split?

    1. I’m with Mr. Bearden, as a parent of a soon to be Jr. High student this coming fall, I, too, would like to know why the dramatic split in voting. And was Cody Stelter even consider to take over the position?
