BRENHAM MAN KILLED IN AUSTIN COUNTY ACCIDENT
A Brenham man is dead after a one-vehicle rollover this (Tuesday) morning near the Austin/Washington County line.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 49-year old Mat Wayne Hobgood was killed when his 2013 Chevy Impala rolled over on Highway 36 near the county line, just south of Church Road.
Trooper Cole Courville of the Austin County DPS Office reports that Hobgood was north-bound on Highway 36 at a high rate of speed, when his car left the roadway and rolled over several times.
The accident occurred around 7:45 this (Tuesday) morning, just inside of Austin County.
Both Austin and Washington County emergency crews responded to the accident scene.
Hobgood’s family has run the local Sears Store in Brenham for many years. His brother Mike passed away less than one month ago.
Mat was like an older brother to me. He had such a positive impact on so many lives. He will be greatly missed.
This is very sad news. We knew Mat to be a good neighbor and an honest business man. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Look to God for the strength and lean on one another for the love and support. I was Mr. Mat mail carrier and he was always nice to me whenever I seen him outside working on washing machines or cutting grass.
