BRENHAM PHONE SCAM WARNING

  

Brenham Police are warning the public about yet another phone scam that’s going around.

Detective Todd Ashorn is warning citizens about a scam that uses a Brenham phone number.

Ashorn say the number shows up as local on one’s cell phone with a 979 area code and 836 prefix.

The caller says they’re from a local institution and need to confirm the person’s account status.

Ashorn says a local man got such a call, but did not give out his personal information, but instead contacted authorities.

The police called the number which constantly rings up a busy signal.

Ashorn says that even thought it shows up as a local number—it is not a legitimate business inquiry.
