At Monday night’s meeting, the board approved a 2.5% midpoint raise for district employees for the 2014-15 school year.

The compensation plan will also include an increase in the Master’s Degree stipend from $500 to $750 per year.

Board member Dr Donald Draehn reminded the board that enrollment is not increasing, and at a 2.5% increase the district would incur a slight deficit.

Fellow board member Ray Weiss stated that the district wants to attract and retain good, quality people and must be competitive pay-wise.

Also at Monday night’s meeting, Kyle LeBlanc from L.A.N. gave a construction update.

LeBlanc reported that there is still more exterior concrete to be poured on both projects, but for the most part, both projects are wrapping up.

At Alton, LeBlanc says the Administration offices and the PreK / Kindergarten classrooms are substantially complete.

The board also adopted new policies for class ranking to match the new House Bill-5 requirements.

High School Principal Steve Skrla told the board that all Honor Graduates must take Algrebra II and have a GPA of 3.25 or higher.

The board also approved William Paul as a new Assistant Principal at Brenham Junior High School.  Paul is coming to Brenham from A&M Consolidated High School in College Station.  He has been a teacher and coach for the past 10 years.
