With the skies threatening throughout the game, Brewton’s fastball rained down on the Bulldogs, as he faced the minimum 15 batters over five innings.

The Bulldogs managed three base runners with two walks and a hit batsman, but Brewton picked one off first, Ryan Newman threw the second one out trying to steal, and the third was retired on a double play, started by Brewton.

Meanwhile, the Cubs took the early lead on a first-inning single by Caleb Hill that drove in two.  Jacob Stegent’s sacrifice fly gave Brenham a 3-0 lead after the first inning.

A double-steal in the third scored Courtland Sutton for a 4-0 lead.

The Cubs closed the game out with six runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Teddy Hoffman drove in a run with a double.  Blake Wellmann’s sac fly plated Jack Baker.

With the Cubs leading 8-0, Tyler Watts’ single scored Matthew Zettle and Sutton to end the game by run-rule.

The Cubs (7-6/2-0) are the only undefeated team left in District 18/4A play.

They face a busy spring-break week with games Tuesday at Willis, Friday at home to Montgomery, and Saturday at Rudder.

All three games can be heard live on KWHI.
