BRYAN MAN ARRESTED FOR TRYING TO KILL AUSTIN COP

A 20-year-old Bryan man is in custody after he was arrested for trying to kill an Austin police officer.

Andrew Jones is in jail charged with attempted capital murder, for an incident occurred Thursday night in North Austin.

According to police, an officer tried to pull Jones over in a vehicle reported stolen out of College Station.  That led to a high speed chase, with Jones reportedly driving as fast as 85 miles per hour.

Police say he eventually crashed the car, took off running, eventually trying to hide behind a tree. That's when police say he tried to shoot at the officer but the gun misfired.

Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo says the officer used his Taser to drop and subdue Jones, until back-up arrived and took Jones into custody.

Jones is a convicted felon and had felony arrest warrants.
