COLUMBUS, Ga. – With timely hitting, the Wallace State-Hanceville softball team knocked the Blinn Buccaneers out of the NFCA Leadoff Classic here Sunday.

Top-ranked Wallace State ended the Buccaneers’ run 3-1 in the tournament semifinals. Blinn finished the tournament 4-1, including a come-from-behind win over LSU-Eunice, 7-6, the NJCAA’s Division II top team that had previously won 17 straight games.

The Lady Lions scored three runs on seven hits en route to the win. Two of their three runs came with runners in scoring position.

The Bucs (17-5) weren’t as fortunate with timely hits.

Down 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Blinn had a chance to take the go-ahead with Alli Spivey and Delilah Pacheco in scoring position, but Blinn grounded out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Blinn found itself in a similar situation with two on and two outs, but once again Wallace State escaped the threat to clinch the victory.

Spivey was 3-for-4 and Pecheco was 0-for-2 with two walks.

Blinn had beaten Wallace State twice this season at the San Jacinto Round Robin in February.
