Behind a six-inning no-hitter by freshman pitcher Jaiden Rawls, the Buccaneers swept Lamar State-Port Arthur Friday, 6-4 and 8-0, at Hohlt Park to clinch the South Zone’s final seed.

Now with a single regular season series remaining, the Buccaneers can begin setting their sights on the conference tournament and making a run to the NJCAA national tournament.

Rawls dominated in the pitching circle in Game 2, as no batter from Lamar State reached beyond second base. The Blinn offense took care of the rest as it pounded 12 hits and scored eight runs.

The Bucs used a pair of three-run innings that included RBI doubles by Alli Spivey and Peyton Webb that allowed them to pull ahead.

Webb was 3-for-4 with two RBI, Spivey was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI and Sydney Wellmann went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Bucs offense stormed ahead early in Game 1, scoring all six runs in the first three innings. Marissa Purcell had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with a run scored. Taylor Guidry had two hits and drove in a run.

Freshman pitcher Mariah Gibson tossed a complete game. She allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out eight.

Blinn and Lamar State were fighting for the fourth and final spot out of the South Zone in the conference tournament. The teams split their doubleheader in their previous meeting.

The Bucs close out their regular season Monday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Angelina in Lufkin. The Region XIV Conference tournament begins May 1 in Lufkin.
