BUCS DROP NON-CONFERENCE TILT TO PANOLA

Buccaneers fall late to Panola, 10-4

The Panola Ponies used a late-inning surge to pull away from the Blinn baseball team at Leroy Dreyer Field on Tuesday.

The Ponies rallied from a 3-2 deficit to beat the Buccaneers 10-4.

“We gave them traffic and they got a couple of big knocks and ran away with it,” Blinn (19-14) coach Harvey McIntyre said. “Nobody likes to lose, but you’ve got to pick your head up and move on.”

Blinn pulled ahead 3-2 with a two-run fourth inning on RBI knocks from Reed Robinson and Cullen Jozwiak. Panola tied the game in the top of the sixth before pulling away in the seventh.

Though the Ponies pulled away late, McIntyre was pleased with the Bucs’ early pitching.

Freshman Christian Thames tossed three innings and allowed a run on two hits. Sophomore Cole Doherty followed up with three innings of relief, allowing two runs—one earned—on two hits and striking out four.

“It’s good to see those two guys throw really well, because we’re going to need them to be big for us,” McIntyre said.

Out of the bullpen, Thames has throw 20 1-3 innings, allowed 10 earned runs on 14 hits and carries a 4.35 ERA.

Doherty, meanwhile, has throw 7 1-3 innings, struck out nine and holds a 2.45 ERA.
