Buccaneers fall to Angelina in regular season finale

LUFKIN, Texas – The Blinn softball team dropped its doubleheader to Angelina College here Monday, 4-3 and 5-4.

The Buccaneers had a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh of Game 1 but Angelina hit a walk off three-run home run to steal the victory.

Marissa Purcell helped give the Bucs the go-ahead in the top of the seventh with a single to center field that scored Taylor Guidry. Angelina took a 1-0 lead in the first and Blinn quickly responded with a run in the top of the second.

Angelina took a 5-1 lead in Game 2 before the Bucs started a comeback that included a Jaiden Rawls home run—her 12th of the season.

Monday’s doubleheader marked the end of the regular season for both teams. Blinn clinched a spot in the Region XIV Conference Tournament with a sweep over Lamar State-Port Arthur on Saturday. The tournament begins May 1 in Lufkin.
