“We got a lot of players out on our home court,” coach Erin Mellinger said. “It was a good team effort.”

The Buccaneers hosted a “Dig Pink Rally” during the match Tuesday, donning pink jerseys in support of breast cancer awareness. A portion of the night’s ticket sales will benefit the Side-Out Foundation, a nonprofit that awards grants to medical research organizations and entities dedicated to providing support to breast cancer patients and their families.

The team honored Bonnie Loehr, the mother of freshman setter Lauren Loehr, on the court Tuesday for her strength in her battle with cancer.

“We not only host this night to give back, but to honor our own,” Mellinger said. “It’s not just about us.”
