BUCS SEASON ENDS WITH PLAYOFF LOSS

Trinity Valley ends Buccaneers’ season in conference semis

ATHENS, Texas – Trinity Valley’s high-powered offense proved too much for the Blinn Buccaneers Saturday afternoon.

The 10th-ranked Cardinals racked up 432 total yards on offense and beat the Buccaneers 38-7 in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference (SWJCFC) semifinals. The loss ends the Bucs’ season.

Blinn (4-6) pulled the game close in the third quarter after the Bucs defense held Trinity Valley (8-2) to a three-and-out to open the second half. Sophomore running back Klartel Claridy finished off a quick three-play drive when he found the end zone on a 10-yard run to cut the Cardinals’ lead to 10-7.

That was the closest they would come.

Trinity Valley put up 21 third-quarter points to build a 31-7 lead at the end of the quarter. A fourth-quarter score put the game out of reach.

Blinn’s offense wasn’t able to create any momentum going against the conference’s second-best defense. Coming off a 522-yard performance the week prior, Blinn only managed 270 yards against the Cardinals.

Claridy managed 90 yards on 14 carries, and quarterback Garry Kimble added another 39, while going 13-for-29 through the air with two interceptions.

Wide receiver Kaylon Melancon caught five passes for 29 yards, and Darrion Landry grabbed four for 47 yards.

Trinity Valley advances to the SWJCFC championship game. Navarro beat Tyler 33-24 in the other SWJCFC semifinal.
