BURGLARY THWARTED BY ALERT NEIGHBOR

An alert neighbor and a call to 9-1-1 has Washington County Sheriff’s deputies searching for a burglary suspect.

Just before 2:30 Friday morning, a neighbor on Jozwiak Road, east of Brenham, contacted authorities, saying that there was a suspicious vehicle at the house next door.

As deputies arrived at the scene a vehicle sped off, leading to a high speed chase.

Deputies say they lost sight of the vehicle on Chadwick/Hogan Road near Nicholson Lake Road.

But moments later another deputy found an abandoned Ford Escape parked in the middle of the 8600 block of Mulberry Street with the motor still running.

Inside were numerous tools and equipment that were confirmed stolen from a storage building behind the home on Jozwiak Road.

Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak says he’s thankful that an alert and concerned neighbor as well as quick response by his deputies led to the recovery of stolen property and a possible arrest in the case.

The Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation.
