BURLESON COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO 159 YEARS

A Caldwell man has been sentenced to 159 years behind bars, after he pleaded guilty to Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and three charges of Indecency With a Child.

56-year old Richard Steven McClellan was sentenced Friday by 21st District Court Judge Carson Campbell.  The sentence comes just over two months after McClellan’s plea.

A victim came forward over a year ago, accusing McClellan of sexually assaulting her while she was a child.

An investigator with the District Attorney’s Office and a Texas Ranger travelled to Washington State to interview McClellan, who confessed to the allegations.

After the sentence was pronounced, District Attorney Julie Renken called McClellan’s actions “reprehensible” and said he “deserves every minute of the sentence.”

Renken also commended the victim saying, “It took courage for the young lady to come forward with her story.  She deserves to have that story told, and justice done.”

Aggravated Sexual Assault carries a punishment range of 5 to 99 years, or life, in the state penitentiary.  Indecency With a Child by Contact carries a range of 2 to 20 years confinement.

Campbell sentenced McClellan to the maximum 99 years on Aggravated Sexual Assault and the maximum 20 years on each count of Indecency With a Child, and ordered the sentences to be served consecutively.
