PANTHERS’ SEASON ENDS IN BOERNE

The Burton Panthers’ 2013 season came to an end Friday night in the Area Round of the Region IV/A Division II playoffs.

The LaPryor Bulldogs use a powerful ground attack and the old wishbone formation to eliminate the Panthers from the post-season, 26-12 at Boerne ISD Stadium.

With the game tied 6-6 at the half, the Bulldogs opened the third quarter with a pounding, 74-yard drive that took 7:56.

After the Panthers tied the game at 12-12 on Tanner Damuth’s 1-yard run, Burton seemed to catch a huge break when LaPryor fumbled the ball near mid-field.

But on the next play, the Panthers fumbled it right back to the Bulldogs.  Jonathan Witt picked up the loose ball and raced 42 yards to give the Bulldogs back the lead, 19-12.

After a Burton punt, LaPryor put the game away with seven-minute, 31-second drive that went 80 yards and culminated with a 27-yard touchdown run for Ben Bliss—his third TD of the night.

LaPryor would finish with 289 yards offense—all on the ground.  Bliss rushed 167 yards and three touchdowns.

Burton was led by Damuth, who ran for 113 of the team’s 173 total rushing yards.  He also scored both of the teams’ touchdowns.

LaPryor advances to the Region Semifinals against Sabinal, a 50-16 winner over Bartlett.

The Panthers finish the season 6-5.
