BURTON SCHOOL BOARD EXTENDS SUPT. PALMER’S CONTRACT

Burton School Supt. Jim Palmer will continue as that district’s chief officer for another year after a lengthy session of the Burton School Board.. The Board extended Palmer’s contract for another year at their Monday night meeting.

Palmer, who has been the superintendent for close to a decade, has overseen the passage of a $7 million bond issue that built a new elementary school, a new library and agriculture center.  He brought the school district up from an unsatisfactory rating from the Texas Education Agency to a excellent rating.

The Burton School Board also hired Melinda Fuchs as the elementary school principal for a one year probationary period.

Burton High School Principal Karen Steeken had her contract extended for a year, as well.

The school board also asked the Texas Education Agency to waive the low attendance figures for the month of January, after having several days of very cold weather.

Palmer says they still haven’t received an offer to buy the one-time elementary school.
