BURTON TRUSTEES DECIDE ON USE OF FUNDS

Members of the Burton School Board have decided have decided to spend half of a 1.6-million dollar low-interest loan on the basics.

Members of the board have voted to use half of the Qualified Zone Academy bond loan to purchase air conditioning, lighting and plumbing for the district.

The rest of the money—about $800,000—will be used for improvements to the Burton District’s facilities, such as upgrades to the old rock high school—including electrical service and wheelchair access.

Superintendent James Palmer says other projects which could require construction work will also be addressed.

Palmer says the district’s interest on the QZAB loan will total just $71,000 over the next 15 years.
