CALDWELL ELEMENTARY “NOT READY” FOR START OF SCHOOL

Officials with the Caldwell Independent School District say it looks like Caldwell Elementary School will likely not be ready in time for the first day of classes, less than two weeks away.

Superintendent Timothy Cuff said the mold issues that forced the school to shut down last March are taking longer to repair than initially thought.

Cuff says it appears that reopening the campus is going to be delayed anywhere from nine to fourteen days.

Leaking water underneath the school's foundation, combined with rainwater that made its way into some underground pockets, created the mold.

Cuff says crews are finishing up the remediation phase, while the renovation phase is next.

School officials also decided to take the renovation phase a bit further, adding new ceiling tiles, insulation, fresh paint and new carpet throughout the school.

Cuff said crews will be working about 12 hours a day, seven days a week to get the work done.

In the meantime, Cuff said students will be housed at the same off-site locations during school hours as they were last Spring.
