CALDWELL MAN INDICTED FOR MURDER

A Caldwell man facing  capital murder charges  after a June 28th attack on a Caldwell city worker  will go on trial for that crime  next year.

Thirty-eight year old Nortorris Deere pled not guilty of  robbing and killing a 63-year old Caldwell man during a burglary.  Evidence shows Bennie King, a long time city employee for Caldwell was killed with a blow to his head.

Deere was indicted in Burleson County and remains in the county jail under a half a million bond.

District Attorney Julie Renken has not said if she will seek the death penalty in this case.

A women found King lying face down in the front section of his house on the afternoon of June 28th.  Emergency medical crews rushed to the scene but he was dead at the scene.  A Sheriff’s investigator determined that King had been dead for less than an hour when he was discovered.

Despite the lack of a murder weapon, or motive police were able to charge Deere with murder with other evidence discovered at the scene.

A pretrial hearing is likely to be held in February.
