CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON LANDFILL PROPERTY OFFER
The property of the long proposed site for the City of Brenham’s landfill may be close to being sold.
At Thursday afternoon’s meeting of the Brenham City Council, members will go into executive session to discuss a recent offer for the 205 acre tract off Jozwiak Road between Brenham and Chappell Hill. The City has approximately $900,000 invested in the site, which was originally purchased and permitted for a landfill. That permit was later abandoned, after many years of protests by Chappell Hill residents and property owners. A 2006 study by the JFK Group, which was commissioned by the City, estimate the land to be worth between one and one and a quarter million dollars. Only one party has made an offer to purchase the property.
The Brenham City Council meets Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock on the second floor of the City Municipal Building.
Perhaps they should say the city waited till they got the offer they wanted from an out of town person, not a low offer from people who grew up here and love the land because it’s here in Washington County. People who want to farm or ranch it and leave it to their kids, not make it into yet another subdivision!
The city has had more than one party make an offer, they have been given the opportunity several times to sell that property but obviously it was not the person that they wanted to buy the property. If a realty sign is put up they should look at EVERY offer that comes there way and not lie to the public and say they have only had one party make an offer.
