The Brenham City Council held their regular meeting today (Thursday).  After a short executive session, they voted to authorize the City Attorney to pursue all available legal remedies against the owners of a substandard commercial building at 209 South Market Street.  Those remedies could include a lawsuit against the owners to require them to bring the building up to code or tear it down.  Although the exterior of the building was painted several years ago, it remains in a state of disrepair with missing windows and doors and openings in the roof.  Brenham police stated that they found evidence that vagrants have been inside the building.  City Attorney Cary Bovey stated that the city has been in contact with the owners and hoped that they would bring the building up to code.

In other action, the council voted to amend a contract with TxDOT to cover the actual bid amount for some improvements at the Brenham Airport.  Those improvements are part of a 90/10 grant from TxDOT and include construction of a new row of T-hangers and the associated taxiway.

The council also voted to accept a yearlong grant from TxDOT for their Selective Traffic Enforcement Program.  The grant would pay for officer overtime to cover the Highway 290 corridor through the city.  Brenham Police Chief Rex Phelps explains that this is not the first time the city has utilized these funds:
