CITY GOES FOR SOLID WASTE GRANT

The Brenham City Council approved a grant application to the Brazos Valley Council of Governments under the solid waste grant program for the purchase of 50, 60 gallon stand alone recycling containers at (Thursday’s) meeting.

Dane Rau of the Public Works Department told the City Council that each year the Brazos Valley COG Solid Waste Committee provides an opportunity for municipalities, counties, schools and organizations to apply for grant funds issued by the state.  Rau told the Council that the city would use the containers in  the city’s local attractions such as the Blue Bell Aquatic Center, Hohlt Park, Fireman’s Park, Henderson Park and Jackson Street Park.   He says they will concentrate on recycling plastic bottles in these venues by utilizing the containers.  The application is for $6400.  The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has approved $50,000 for distribution through these grants.
