CITY OF BRENHAM BEGINS BUDGET WORKSHOPS

Budget discussions for the City of Brenham get underway Monday and will likely include a decrease in the property tax rate.

City Manager Terry Roberts tells the Brenham Banner Press that the tax rate will drop slightly below eight cents because Washington County is taking over the emergency communications operations from the city.

Roberts says that department’s operational costs totaled about $957,000 in the current city budget.

The city will also lose about $120,000 which Washington County was paying the city for providing some services.

Roberts said the new budget “is going to be pretty tight.”

Roberts adds that the city is expecting to see a property value increase of around 2-percent.

Workshops are scheduled for 8:30 Monday and Thursday mornings at City Hall, 200 W. Vulcan.
