City of Brenham work crews will begin work on fourteen city streets as part of a reconstruction plan in the next fiscal year.

City Public Works Director Dane Rau presented a list of the streets that are part of a $360,000 project, included in the 2014-15 budget.

Rau says the money will allow the reconstruction of about two-and-a-half miles of city streets.

Rau told the Brenham City Council that approximately 80-percent of the city’s streets could be categorized in “fair to poor” shape.

Rau says the selected streets were chosen based on condition, location, square footage and utilities.

The areas chosen include portions of: South Chappell Hill; East Tom Green; Borman; Reimer; Longhofer; South Austin; South Baylor; West Jefferson; West Chauncy; Franklin; Ross; Crockett; Williams and Rucker.

Work is expected to begin Oct. 1, and will be spread out throughout the year.

Rau says the program of increased funding for street improvements is expected to continue for the next four years.
