COMMISSIONERS LEASE FAIRGROUND LAND FOR SENIOR CITIZEN GARDEN FARMING

A small portion of land on the Washington County Fairgrounds will soon be growing food for the Healthy Living Association for their senior citizen meal program at today’s (Tuesday’s) meeting of the Washington County Commissioners.  The Commissioners agreed to lease the land to WCHLA.

Precinct Two County Commissioner Luther Hueske said the Association is trying to keep feeding senior citizens even though they have seen big budget cuts from the federal government.

The lease is in the northern part of the fairgrounds and will be in effect for one year.  Precinct Three County Commissioner Kirk Hanath questioned why the lease was only for one year.

Persons sentenced to perform community service from criminal convictions will be largely responsible for tending this garden.  +
