COUNTERFEIT MONEY TRAINING

Austin County Sheriff Jack Brandes says more and more counterfeit bills are showing up in his county and all along this area in between the Austin/Houston corridor.

That’s why his department is joining with the U.S. Secret Service for a counterfeit money identification and training session Thursday at the Sealy American Legion Hall.

Sheriff Brandes says the nature of counterfeiting is changing but the motivation is the same: theft.

The training session will take up the history of the Secret Service, how currency is made, security features of genuine currency, and exposure to different types of counterfeiting.

The training is free and open to the public with the emphasis being on financial institutions, business management, law enforcement and anyone else who deals with cash on a regular basis.

The Counterfeit Money ID and training is at one pm Thursday at the Sealy American Legion Hall at 1630 Meyer Street.
