COUNTY COMMISSIONERS APPROVE THREE PROCLAMATIONS
Washington County Commissioners approved three proclamations at their meeting this morning. Commissioners designated next week as Texas Extension Education Week in Washington County. Local TEEA volunteers accepted the proclamation and presented the Commissioners with a check for $140,000 which represented the amount of time volunteers have donated in the past year in Washington County.
Domestic violence is an issue that’s been in the headlines lately. Commissioners designated October as Domestic Violence Awareness month. Members of the Washington County Victim Task Force accepted the proclamation and reminded everyone of their annual Candlelight Vigil on October 14th at 6pm at the Blinn College Student Center.
Members of the Washington County Genealogical Society accepted a proclamation recognizing their Adopt a Cemetery program. The program seeks to locate and clean up the numerous forgotten burial grounds in Washington County. Jan Kelm stated that the Society plans a kickoff for the project on Thursday, Oct. 9 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Ant Street Inn. Texas Historical Commission Coordinator for Cemetery Preservation Jennie McWilliams will be at the event to answer questions. In other action, commissioners gave their approval for Washington County to sell surplus items and vehicles through GovDeals.com, and online Auction Service.
