The County Commissioners heard monthly reports from the Sheriff’s Department, EMS, and for the first time, Emergency Communications.  Director of Emergency Communications Nathan Preston presented the monthly report reviewing the number of calls handled by the communications center.  Dispatch receives an average of 145  911 calls per day with over 80 percent of those coming from cell phones.  There was some discussion of the location data that comes in on a cell call and how accurate that information is.  Preston commented that the upcoming October 1 changeover of communications to the County would have some challenges, but he foresees no major road blocks.

Chief Deputy Jay Petrash presented the monthly report for the Sheriff’s Department.  He noted that burglaries are up both in the city as well as the county.  The commissioners inquired about the number of false alarm calls responded to. Sheriff Otto Hanak stated that the department was now sending out letters to home owners and business that were repeat offenders of false alarms.  The letter informs them that the Sheriff’s department will no longer respond to an alarm call to their address, only an actual 911 call.  Hanak also stated that with the loose livestock calls, there have been very few repeat offenders, as most land owner repair their fences when the Sheriff’ s Department is called out.

County EMS Director Kevin Deramus reviewed the monthly EMS report.  During the month of July, EMS responded to 547 calls.  Of those calls, 61% were city residents, 25% were county residents, and 14% were visitors in our county.
