CUBETTES GO 2-1 ON OPENING DAY OF COLUMBUS TOURNEY

The Brenham Cubettes picked up two wins in three pool play games Thursday, the opening day of the Columbus Volleyball Classic.

In the opener, the Cubettes (3-1) downed Freer, 2-0 (25-11, 25-13).

Hadley Webb had four kills and served six aces.  Gretchen West had six kills and three blocks, while Kenna Mikolajczak had five kills.

In the second game, Brenham suffered their first loss of the season, falling to St. Joe’s, 2-0 (20-25, 16-25).  Mikolajczak has seven kills and six digs, while Webb had six kills, and Jordan Wellmann and Avery Schroeder each had five digs.

In the third, and final game of the day, the Cubettes edged Yoakum, 2-1 (25-4, 22-25, 25-18).  Webb had 12 kills, seven digs and five aces; Mikolajczak had 10 kills, while West had seven; Wellman had 14 digs; Kaci Pecht dished out 19 assists while Kelly Jurden had 15 assists and 4 aces.

The Cubettes will face two more pool-play games Friday: LaGrange at 11:00 and Calhoun at noon.
