CUBETTES RUN-RULE PANTHERS IN 2014 FINALE

The Brenham Cubettes closed out what has been a disappointing 2014 campaign on a high note, winning three of their last four games—including Tuesday’s 12-0 rout of Caney Creek.

The Cubettes (13-14/6-10) busted open a tight 1-0 game in the top of the sixth with 11 runs.

The leading the way were Shannon Loukanis with a two-run double;  Meg Morris’ tree-run double;  and, Macie Becker’s three-run homer.

Colleen Bentke (4-4) had her third-straight strong pitching performance as she went the distance in a one-hit shutout, striking out seven and not walking a Caney Creek batter.

The Cubettes finished the year with wins over Rudder (6-1), Huntsville (5-1) and Caney Creek…while dropping a tough 4-2 loss to district runner-up Magnolia.

Brenham’s first-year head coach Jamie Maurer loses just one senior (Rachel Butler) from this year’s team and looks to return the entire starting lineup from 2014.

Other 18/4A scores: Montgomery 5   Magnolia 4;  Magnolia West 2   Waller 1;  Huntsville 3   Willis 2;  Rudder, bye.
