CUBS EDGE RUDDER, 2-1
The Brenham Cubs managed just three hits, but made them count as they squeaked by Rudder, 2-1 Tuesday night at Firemen’s Park.
Pitching proved to be the key as three Cubs teamed up for the one-run win.
Broc Bosse (6-1) went the first five innings, yielding just one run on four hits and striking out six. Sam McElreath got the Cubs through the sixth, then into the seventh. Teddy Hoffman got the save (3) when he got the last out in the seventh.
The Cubs (17-7/12-1) trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Hoffman and Rayne Richard reached on back-to-back Ranger errors with two outs. Hoffman scored the tying run on a third-strike wild pitch to Caleb Hill.
Brenham took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth when Tyler Watts singled, went to second on a balk, then scored when the Rudder catcher threw wild to third after a passed ball.
The Cubs hit the road Thursday night when they travel to Magnolia to face the Bulldogs. First pitch is at 7:00 with the pre-game show at 6:40 on KWHI and www.kwhi.com.
