CUBS GET TO WORK IN “VERY GOOD SHAPE” MONDAY MORNING

Work has begun on the 2014 edition of the Brenham Cubs football team.

The Cubs, like other programs across the State of Texas, opened up two-a-day workouts Monday morning.

Cubs’ head coach Glen West enters his 17th season at the helm of the Brenham program, and told the Brenham Sports Line Monday night, it felt good to get back out on the practice field for the first time since the State Championship Game in December.

West says things went very well for the first day of workouts…

      

The Cubs return 15 lettermen from the 2013 District and Region Champions.  That includes seven starters (4 on offense; 3 on defense).

With a slew of new faces to the program, West says there were some pleasant surprises on the first day of workouts…

The  Cubs will continue to work out in shorts and helmets for the next several days, until the full pads will be worn for the first time Friday.

The Cubs first scrimmage will be Friday, August 15th when they host Manvel at 9:00 a.m. at Cubs Stadium.  The following Friday the team will travel to Round Rock for their annual scrimmage with Westwood High School.

The Cubs’ season opener is set for Friday night, August 29th when they travel to Houston to face powerhouse Lamar.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 with the broadcast on KWHI and www.kwhi.com beginning at 6:30.
