CUBS ROLL PAST CANEY CREEK, 59-45
A big second quarter surge and tough defense down the stretch carried the Brenham Cubs to a 59-45 win over Caney Creek, Tuesday night at the Brenham High School gym.
The Cubs (20-9/10-4) broke open a tight game early by outscoring the Panthers 22-6 over the second quarter.
Courtland Sutton and Chase Brooks combined for 16 of the Cubs’ 22 points in the second quarter, giving the team a 35-16 lead at the half.
The Panthers were able to cut the lead to seven early in the fourth quarter, but the Brenham defense forces a number of turnovers and pulled away to the 14-point win.
The Cubs remain one-game out of first place in District 18/4A, after Montgomery defeated Magnolia, 63-42.
The Cubs’ home finale is Friday night, when they host Magnolia West. Tipoff is set for 7:30, with a 7:15 pre-game show on KWHI and www.kwhi.com.
