EARLY VOTING BEGINS MONDAY

Early voting gets underway tomorrow (Monday) on the proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution.

Early voting will take place at the Washington County courthouse annex in downtown Brenham.

The highest profile amendment is Proposition Six which calls for the creation of a $2 billion fund that would make loans on water projects in the state. The fund would be administered by the Texas Water Development Board.

It has received overwhelming support from Governor Rick Perry’s office and locally by District-13 State Representative Lois Kolkhorst.

Other topics range from criminal justice to reverse mortgages to local election laws.

The only issue with local interest is a bond election for residents of the Oak Hill Fresh Water District. Only registered voters in that district will be able to cast ballots.

Voting hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays through November first.

This election marks the first time that voters casting ballots in person will be required to show some form of photo identification.

The actual election is slated for Tuesday, November fifth.
