ECONOMIST DETAILS BLINN COLLEGE’S IMPACT ON THE LOCAL ECONOMY

Blinn College’s economic impact on its 13 county service area, headquartered in Washington County, is over $345.5 million a year and the benefits continue for years.

That was the report from economist Dr. Aaron Olaine of EMSI, who conducted the survey of the economic impact of Blinn College and presented his findings to last (Tuesday’s) meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Olaine reported that the teachers, administrators and staff at the college receive $61.3 million with student spending contributing $44.5 million, and $239.5 million in worker productivity.

Olaine said there is more.  He says if you look beyond the local area, and the impact of the education students receive at Blinn College, you get what he called the ‘mother of all number,’ the $1.8 billion impact that affects tax rates, worker earning, taxes paid,  less use of governmental services, and the cost of incarceration for criminal offenses.

Olaine also said that students also see greater job opportunities and corporations looking at the Blinn service area may get an advantage.

Dr. Olaine and EMSI did a study on each of the Blinn College campuses.
