FIRE TRUCK PURCHASE ORDERS

The Brenham City Council decided at Thursday’s meeting to go ahead and issue purchase orders for two fire trucks even though the bonds to finance them have not been sold.

City Finance Director Carolyn Miller told the Council the price was going up on the trucks next month, so the city should order them now, in anticipation of the bond sale.

Miller reminded the Council that part of the property tax increase for this fiscal year’s budget was to buy bonds for the fire trucks.  The estimated total cost of these trucks is $1.4 million.

Fire Chief Ricky Boeker says the fire trucks take nine months to build and the city will pay for them when they are delivered.
