FORD APPEAL DENIED BY CRIMINAL APPEALS COURT

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has denied a writ of habeas corpus submitted by a woman convicted of a drunken driving accident that ended the career of a College Station Police officer.

26-year old Alex Ford was found guilty in 2011 of being intoxicated when she slammed a Maserati at high-speed into a College Station patrol unit driven by veteran officer Tracy Sheets.

Sheets received critical injuries that in effect ended her 16-year career as a law officer.

Following her conviction, Ford, who was sentenced to six years in prison, remained free on bond pending an appeal.  However, that bond was revoked after Facebook photos and other evidence showed Ford was out drinking after a court-imposed curfew.

Last September, Ford tried to make a case that she deserved a new trial based on ineffective counsel during her original trial.  In her most recent claim, Ford said her attorney during the trial, Craig Greaves, performed poorly, and had failed to tell her about a plea bargain.

After being denied her appeal by District Judge J.D. Langley, Ford filed the writ of habeas corpus that was denied Wednesday by the Court of Criminal Appeals.

Ford is reportedly eligible for parole in February.
